Noteworthy Families

The Rin Family

Before the breaching of the Air Talon, and the subsequent usage of it by Wendon Rin, the family simply didn't exist in the city. It was just Rin, working on postulates and theories after the tragedy of Chorn Hostorillian. However, one he figured out how to use it, and set up the Wind Walls that now protect the city, the creation of his family, and subsequent rise to power, has been immeasurable.

The family itself is still relatively small, even though he moved his wife, Shilar, into the city. They've perhaps a half dozen sons and daughters, and each of those have perhaps one or two of their own, the youngest of their grandchildren just now coming of age to make something in the world. That being said, they are Exalted, and Wendon himself is a sorceror of some degree, so they enjoy a measure of power and influence in the city as sorcerors, thaumaturges, and most importantly, Scavenger Lords.

Notable Persona: Wendon Rin, Shilar Rin, Garjan Rin

The Siaka Clan

Long before White Siaka figured out how to turn the Water Talon to the advantage of the city, the Siaka Clan has been taking care of Eagle Talon's Ice Docks. They collect the tariffs, they inspect the cargo, they repair the docks and operate the lifts. While this gained the clan some measure of respect... it gave them little real power in the city. That all changed when White Siaka created the line of fresh water to the center of the Agora and the Apex.

Now, White Siaka leads his clan, and the clan itself has power they haven't even dreamed of having in a long time. Not just respected, but feared, because their head controls the fresh water. However, despite their new residence within the Apex, and White Siaka's work with Wendon Rin, they're no richer than they are before. They still only collect tariffs, inspect the cargo going in and out of the city, repair the docks and operate the lifts but... the dream is there now. The young members of the Clan are looking outside of what their parents and grandparents before them have done. They're looking towards the excavations, and ruins, and seeing a chance to improve their families lot even more, to become richer. So many turn to being a Scavenger Lord, get a small crew together, and begin excavations of their own.

Notable Persona: White Siaka

The Hostorillian Family

During the Guild occupation of the city, the Hostorillians were affluent, powerful, and most importantly rich. A combination of Savants, Scavenger Lords, and Merchants, by supporting the guild they became one of the largest powers in the city. Then, Chorn Hostorillian happened.

The entire city knows what befell when Chorn breached the Fire Talon and used it's powers for the city, and the family suffered the backlash. Stripped of much of their power, and out of favor with the other families, when the Guild were pushed out, the family went with them, all save two. There are rumors that surface from time to time, that the family isn't really gone... but there's no proof, and most scoff at the idea. After all, why would the Hostorillian's, after the tragedy they caused, come back to the city when they can simply travel with the Guild elsewhere and setup their fortunes there?

Notable Persona:

Charmilia Hostorillian - Youngest Daughter of Chorn Hostorillian, she, along with her older brother Janith, were the only two to stay in the city. She stayed, not of love, but out of business, making a living as the Mistress of a Brothel, the Lewd Pidgeon, right up against the wall of the city in the Outwall Camp. There, any form of pleasure can be had, for a price, assuming you know the right words and people, of course.

Janith Hostorillian - Secretive, alternatively passionate and aloof, Janith is most often seen in Gear Town, and there his presence, despite being a Hostorillian, is tolerated, sometimes even welcome. For his knowledge of what they're working on, findings, has helped many aspiring scavenger lords find what they were looking for, and make a nice profit. Sometimes, he's even seen in the city proper, and the other families of the city tolerate him for one reason only... he's turned his back on his family. His is the voice of reason, helping others to keep from repeating his father's mistake, and keeping those who would open the Fire Talon away from it.

The Stahlblau Family

Feathersteel. Metal only found used in the North, and used by the North to make weapons and armor from the lightweight, yet sturdy ore. The Stahlblau family in Eagle's Talon are the largest miners, smelters, crafters, and traders of this metal, and have been since the earliest days of the city, even during the Guild's occupation. However, they're not the sole family, or traders of the product in the city, and a lot of that has to do with out Mithgar Stahlblau, the aging leader of the family, views trade.

He believes that for his family to be strong, there needs to be competition. And so, they only control maybe 60% of the total Feathersteel products found in Eagle's Talon. By allowing the other 40% to be controlled by smaller families and individuals, it keeps his family working to maintain the control they have, and keeps the prices competitive, ensuring that the best work is still affordable, and anyone looking to spike the market fails. Miserably.

Noteworthy Persona: Mithgar Stahlblau

The Tauto Family

One of the two main militaristic families in Eagle's Talon, the Tauto primarily focus on the ship side of things. Military warships that travel on sea or in the air are the purview of this family, and something they take pride in. Engineers, tacticians, admirals and more make up the bulk of the family, with many enjoying postings on the command vessels and larger airships.

As such, their presence, when they are, actually, in the city, brings a measure of cheerfulness, joy, and money to the city each time a ship comes to the Skydock, disgorging it's troops for their well deserved time off.

Noteworthy Persona: Alisana Tauto, Asano Tauto

The Carmian Family

The other military family. Where the Tauto's focus on the sea and air, the Carmian focus upon the land and ice. When it comes time to man the ice ships, or defend the walls of the city, it's to the Carmian's the city turns to. Out of all the families, they're the only ones permitted to their own private army, so long as it defends the city. This leaves the guards free to deal with domestic problems, knowing that the Carmian's will defend the city from outside threats till the other city-states can come to their aid.

Noteworthy Persona: Daede Carmian, Fardrick Carmian

The Bluete Family

Before the Rins, the Siaka, and the Hostorillian's, there was the Bluete. Savants, Scholars, Thaumaturgests, and the occasional Terrestrial Sorceror, they were the only real Occult family in the area. Even with the rise of the Rins and the Siaka, they still maintain a broader area of influence, along with a larger amount of power than either of the other two. Yet, at the same time, the elder members fear the influence of the Rins and the Siaka, now that they own two of the Talons, and the Bluete's haven't even touched one, for all the smaller marvels they've helped in the city.

Notable Persona: Ithin Bluete - Ithin Bluete just inherited the leadership of the family after his father passed away. A young thaumaturgist and savant, he holds great influence, both in the youngest generation of his peers, as well as his family. Since his inheritence, the ventures that the Bluete Family have funded have increased tenfold, which leads some to wonder whether he's looking for something in particular, or leading the family to bankruptcy.

The Rilen Cartel

Outside of Feathersteel, three families dominate the trade in Eagle's Talon. The Rilen family handle the sea routes, trade by ship when the ice is gone, and by ice ship when the ice is there. As much at home on the sea and ice as they are in their homes, they spend as much of their money furthering their shipping empire and strengthening their ships as they do in the bars, pubs, inns, and brothels of the city.

Merchants, as much as sailors, come from this family, and much of the city's ships are crewed solely by the Rilen and the minor families that serve them. However, as many of the daughters serve beside the sons of this house, leading some to talk about inbreeding in the house. So far, nothing has been proven, just yet.

Notable Persona:

The Vol Family(trade)

The Vol family runs the land routes, sending caravans in the spring, and watching them return in the fall. They're the family most often seen in foreign countries as traders and merchant-princes, and many spend the time after they finish schooling to travel Creation among the Caravans, some spending years, other decades, just to return with new ideas, new alliances, and sometimes, new families.

Of all the families, the Vol are the most tolerant of foreigners. Often, their caravans are staffed by a quarter non-Haslanti, from guards and servants to workers and task managers. Some even marry foreigners, though most marry other Haslanti, or at least other Northerners to secure trade routes.

Notable Persona: Valiard Vol

The Rundig Family(trade)

Last is the Rundig family. Their influence lay in the airship lanes. Often working with Tauto family, as do the Rilen, for the security of their vessels, they're the ones doing the actual trading. Sailors of the first accord, the Rundig family takes pride in the fact that, since they took primary control of the airship routes for the city, they've not lost a single ship to the weather, nor to piracy. Though no small thanks in part to the Tauto families protection, they still do take most of the credit for the success of their air fleet. Sailors and Merchants, they retain respect and power for their well handled air routes. Though not necessarily the cheapest air routes, they are the safest.

Notable Persona: Shikar Rundig

The Shard Clans of the Haslanahsa Tribe

The Shard Clans occupy much of the territory in the outwall areas between Eagle Talon and Ironfall. Each of the clans tend to specialize in a certain field of expertise most of the time and it largely helps to protect the northern outwall territories of Eagle Talon, and the eastern outwall territories of Ironfall. Their kind or tribal leader of the clans is Erikhi the Bold, who was in the Air Fleet for the League as a Airship Captain before taking over as clan leader of the Ice-Shard clan, and King of the Shard Clans. Ice Shard Port is where the royal city for the clans is located, though it is really just a small town. It serves as an Ice Ship Port, and airship repair facility where the White Sea meets Malice Bay.

Notable Persona: King Erikhi the Bold, Princess Camalia Ice-Shard
